I loved the smell of the fresh rain on the forest floor, the sound of water dripping off of pine needles, and the songs of birds echoing through the misty trees. When I was a child my dad would take me flying in a small plane to see the sights along the front range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Fast forward a few years, I majored in Flight Science in college and became a corporate pilot. This particular aircraft is one that I spent many hours flying during my training in college. My client and I communicated back and forth several times to get the angle of the plane exactly as she envisioned it, it’s important to me that my clients get exactly what they ask for! The most challenging part of this painting for me was capturing the essence of Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, which happens to be the headquarters of KLM! This was the first painting that made me believe that other people would be interested in procuring my art! I used reference photos from that hike to recreate this sentimental scene and I gifted this painting to my mom for her 60th birthday. This painting is reminiscent of everything I love about Colorado! I love the rich colors of the dry grasses and the way they contrast so beautifully with the Evergreens and Aspen trees. My soul always feels refreshed whenever I have a chance to visit the mountains.
